Although Nobel Prize-winning author William Faulkner was a Mississippi native, he loved Kentucky and visited as much as he could. And, in Faulkner’s 1929 novel The Sound and The Fury, his tragic character Quentin Compton speaks the line: “I have believed that God is not only a gentlemen and a sport; he is a Kentuckian too.”
